Support The Button Family

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Emma, and I am fundraising for my dear friend Carly and her family, in order to help provide for some of their needs over this holiday season. Helping them to cover their basic costs (rent, groceries, car insurance/gas), some travel expenses for medical appointments, and some extra to help them make this holiday season special for their two kids, will make a huge difference.

Carly is a full time parent to Harrison (5) and Evangeline (3), and a freelance writer (whose work has been published in Loose Lips Magazine ), and her spouse Steve is a musician, and works installing flooring. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Steve has been unable to work outside the home, and as a self-employed worker, was ineligible for much of the government support. This has placed a significant financial strain on the family. Steve and Carly have been almost completely home-bound for the last two years, in order to keep their family safe and healthy. Carly's mother DJ, also lives with them in their home, and is a wheelchair user.

Carly and Steve's son Harrison was diagnosed with Noonan Syndrome when he was just one month old. Two years ago when he was only three, Harrison's doctors discovered four brain tumours, and he underwent six brain surgeries, for a shunt to be installed, in order to allow his cerebral spinal fluid to flow the way it needs to. As a part of the treatment for his tumours, Harrison has been receiving a trial chemotherapy medication, that he takes via pill every day. As a result of this treatment, Harrison is immunocompromised, and takes antibiotics several times a week. These health concerns have made the pandemic especially hard on the Button family, as they work to keep Harrison safe. The pandemic has meant that it is not currently possible for Harrison and Evie to go to school, limiting their social interaction with other kids.

Over the next few weeks, Carly and Steve will need to take Harrison to several medical appointments, that will require them to drive for several hours. During these trips, they will need to pay for gas, as well as meals.

With Steve unable to work outside the home because of COVID risks, monthly expenses have been tight. Covering the family's monthly expenses will help to relieve some of the strain placed on them (and their extended family) as a result of the pandemic. This will help them to remain secure in their housing, and

We also want to help make this holiday season special for them, by helping out with costs for some gifts and treats for the kids (and maybe something special for mum and dad, too)! These kids need some fun new things to make being at home more comfortable.

Any contribution, no matter how small, will help make a huge difference for this special family!

Here is a note from Carly:

We are so appreciative of any support that you are able to give! Over the course of the pandemic, so many people have really been reminded of the importance of community, especially through social media. As a family that deals with concerns of health and disability all the time, the isolation that many have experienced through the course of the pandemic is something that is present for us, even "precedented times" (lol). This makes the connection to and support of our community so important, and incredibly meaningful. Thank you all so much!
